Obsession: Snoogle

If you are pregnant, get a Snoogle pillow. I’m pretty sure I look that content while sleeping too. End of story.

Celebrating Baby Boy!

This past weekend my mom and sister threw a fun celebration for Baby Boy! How lucky I am to have so many people to celebrate this little guy with me. At 36 weeks, I was a little nervous he wouldn’t make it to the shower date (My Girl was born at 36 weeks), but he was a total trooper & stuck around so we could get together then celebrate my family’s Thanksgiving that evening.

A few pics of course!

And they had the most adorable activity ever…each guest chose a letter then personalized it with drawings, pictures and stickers to create an alphabet book for Baby Boy. I’m so in love with the final product!

And my bestie made the trip from Atlanta for the occasion, and we had to make the most of our two bump situation (though hers is quite a bit smaller at 17 weeks)…

Now if I can just get thank you cards written before his debut…

Baby Girl Nursery Dresser / Changing Table Revamp

Dresser/Changing Table Revamp
My Hubs was into revamping My Girl’s rocker for her nursery, but when I sent him to pick up this piece of furniture, he was not so thrilled. He could not see the vision and he thought $60 was too much for this Craigslist find. But then I showed him the prices of dressers & changing tables at chain stores, he was a little more up for the challenge. That made me super giddy because this was going to be the focal point of my “Bright Vintage” theme!

Revamping this dresser was definitely time-consuming – for My Hubs. Lots and lots of sanding. Lots of coats of paint. I am forever grateful for a handyman husband who isn’t afraid of the color pink! But I think the end result is awesome and is something that will be in her room for several years past the diaper changing stage. It is our crown jewel for furniture refurbishment thus far. Rocker Revamp Before & After
I wanted a “Bright Vintage” vibe for My Girl’s nursery. And when planning said nursery, I was just getting into Pinterest. So of course that site convinced me I could pretty much transform anything vintage into a remarkable piece, like this sweet brown velour rocker I found at Goodwill. Now when the guy loading your truck at Goodwill says you got a steal on a piece of furniture, you definitely know you’ve scored a winner. This guy was $25. And he looked every bit the part. But I had big dreams.

Now I can take credit for the Goodwill find & the idea, but My Hubs gets full credit for the end result. Add in the $5 foot stool I found at a thrift shop then reupholstered, I say that was $30 well spent! Two years later, they’re both holding up well (albeit with some crayon markings for some added personality).

Colorful Paint Chip Mobile & DIY Artwork

Round two of reminiscing about My Girl’s nursery projects! Next up: the Paint Chip Mobile & DIY Artwork that hangs above her crib.

If you’ve been on Pinterest for awhile, I’m sure you’ve seen the Paint Chip mobile floating around. The particular one that served as my inspiration was this one from The Sweetest Occasion:

I wanted to make My Girl’s more colorful, so I straight up raided my local Home Depot on a regular basis for various colors of paint chips. I remember my paranoid walk of shame out of the store, completely convinced someone was going to stop me for my pseudo-theft. I actually paid for the lamp shade at Goodwill ($3), which after stripping the shade part, served as the frame for my mobile. The priciest splurge on this project was a scallop circle hole puncher from Michael’s, which was maybe $5 with a coupon. So this project is definitely a cute one on the cheap!

Behind the mobile, I created some DIY artwork. I really wanted the wording “Bonne Nuit” above My Girl’s crib – Good Night in French – but the only stencils I could find ran about $40. No merci. So I created my own by printing out the words on regular printer paper, tracing them onto plastic sheets, then Exacto-knifing the letters from the sheets. The scrolling above and below the words is from a store-bought stencil. You can definitely tell I was figuring things out on my first try with “Bonne” while my second attempt on “Nuit” looks much better!

My Girl in her Crib
And just a sweet story to share about the quilt hanging over her crib: my husband’s paternal grandmother – who passed several years ago – was an avid crocheter. She had started some of these squares before her passing & my husband actually remembers her working on them. For My Girl’s arrival, his sweet maternal grandmother created identical squares and created a blanket infusing both of their work. Now My Girl has an amazing memento from those who came before her – one she’s met, and one she’s yet to meet. Tear!

As I’m prepping Baby Boy’s room, I’ve also been reminiscing about the fun projects I did for My Girl’s room. You know, during the pre-baby days when I had the time to do such elaborate things. It is looking like Baby Boy will have a lot more store-bought pieces than she who came before him, so I’m taking a few posts to appreciate all of my previous Pinterest glory! First up…the ABC Nursery Artwork.

This was inspired by this pin from Knock Off Decor, which came from The Walter Family, which was inspired by Restoration Hardware. Oh how I love the connections of Pinterest!

I created mine in Photoshop using the graphics from The Graphics Fairy then printed each letter as a 5×5 photo from MPix. I then pasted the photos onto white cardstock paper, which I then Modge Podged onto my 16×16 canvases, which I painted a white-washed grey. Since My Girl’s nursery is pretty frilly, I decided to add the ribbon atop each canvas for a little more flair. Two years later, this is still my favorite Pinterest project to date!

I’m feeling inspired. Maybe I can find the time to tackle this pin for Baby Boy’s room after all?

A Major Fashion Moment!

My Girl had her first fashion moment! We met Christian Siriano at the Green Hills Mall! He was super sweet…and super petite. I feel so good that I’m getting My Girl involved with pop culture at such a young age. 🙂
